Why AMFC

Best of both worlds -- AmeriHealth is an established and respected business with a history of success. At the same time we're enjoying "startup" energy as we expand our staff, systems, and processes to fit our growing size and scope. Plus, unlike the “one of many” corporate paradigm, at AmeriHealth your work will include important and highly visible government projects and your skill and talent will be noticed.

Professional development and career growth -- our organization strongly encourages professional development. In the short term you’ll have the opportunity to train with other incoming writers, and over time will be able to attend seminars and classes available to all employees. In the long term, growth equals opportunity and we strongly believe in career progression planning.

Award winning, high quality products -- AmeriHealth offers quality health care products and services designed specifically to meet the changing health care needs and high expectations of our customers. AmeriHealth HMO of New Jersey and Delaware's AmeriHealth HMO, for instance, have received the highest possible accreditation by the national leader in HMO quality evaluation. The National Committee for Quality Assurance has awarded both HMOs "Excellent" status for meeting its rigorous evaluation standards.

Expansion through visionary leadership -- Michael A. Rashid is the President and CEO of the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, a position he has held since January 2010. Under Mr. Rashid's leadership the company has embraced an ambitious strategy geared to building the reserves and infrastructure needed to achieve market leadership over the next five years. Rashid's Vision is that by 2015 AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies will be recognized as the national leader in developing healthcare solutions for the chronically ill and the underserved.

A special mission of care and focus -- Sister Renee Yann is Senior Vice President and Chief Mission Integration Officer for the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies. She is responsible for mission integration across the Family of Companies, and for affirming and assisting the President and Chief Executive Officer and management team in their responsibility to understand, communicate, and implement the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy. AmeriHealth will continue to support that mission.
    Our Mission
  • We help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities.
  • We have a special concern for those who are poor.
Excellent benefits -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer comprehensive benefits that include all you would expect as well as some pleasant surprises, such as health insurance that starts the 1st of month after you start (no waiting period), a pension and 401(k) plan, no city wage tax if you don't reside in Philadelphia (save at least 4%), generous holidays and paid time off, 60-day eligibility for tuition reimbursement, free parking and more.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role, in addition to your developed writing and editing abilities, you should be a team player, expert active listener and a great communicator. You must be flexible, organized, and a fast learner who has the ability to quickly learn and understand the basics of the benefits, programs and services provided by our organization. There's a lot to learn very quickly, so you need high-energy, strong self-motivation and a results oriented attitude. This is a very deadline driven environment, so there are times when you will really need to roll-up your sleeves and get the work done. You’ll also need to be comfortable with critique and able to use it to shape revisions and improve your member communications materials.

The company as a whole is a tight-knit team who enjoy working together and share a strong belief in our mission -- to provide care for the poor, underserved and disadvantaged. We tend to be kind-hearted and collaborative, checking our egos at the door, but also fast moving and committed to an aggressive business plan. Change management is a recurring theme.

Those who thrive at AmeriHealth are flexible, adaptable, and able to juggle multiple and changing priorities. You should also be able to deal with ambiguity. Being on an exponential growth path, we often need to learn on the fly, shape our positions as we're in them and be creative enough to think outside the box. You can't be someone who becomes paralyzed when you encounter situations that aren't the norm or baffled if there is no procedure currently in place. To be a great fit for this role, you should see these challenges not as stumbling blocks, but as exciting opportunities for personal and professional growth.
